Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks have to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete item description, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory is that the level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. Item Stats

The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by adding a name.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade item an item with a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. Similar to base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level upgrade level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be made or spawn using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items can be found in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
