From Hastam Wiki

Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The process of upgrading an item, often referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.

Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain a level gauge for each of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a procedure that can improve the effectiveness of your weapons and armor. This can be accomplished by various methods that include the use of upgrade components and also upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Additionally to this, many items can be reforged to increase their stats.

You can purchase upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available all over the world as well as rewards for missions. Players can also craft them. The most common method of upgrading gear is through the use of upgrade components, which are components that can be slotted into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components provide specific bonuses while others provide an overall bonus.

There are a variety of upgrade components in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. The universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments can be placed on any equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs are only available on gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.

Select the item in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will show Blocked if you don't have enough of either.

The upper-right side of the screen shows the number of upgrade components required to create a particular item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the upgrade level and rarity, but can be reduced by various methods, including purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them to other players.

Many weapons can be improved by adding a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Some can be enhanced with an suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item, adding an adjective, for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor.' The exceptions are the non-inscribable weapons, such as foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any mods.

Glyphs

Glyphs are a powerful tool for communicating visual information. They are animated to grab the viewer's attention and spur curiosity in the brain. The animation of glyphs resembles body language, making them more effective in communicating the message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also increase the likelihood of remembering the message by triggering an experience of familiarity in the brain.

Each glyph has a set of values that it could enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This isn't the exact amount at which glyphs can improve the stat, but rather the maximum amount by which it is able to do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are enchanting it to.

Most Upgrade item components slotted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have an unusable rune or glyph that hasn't yet been incorporated into your gear, you can move it to another piece of equipment by utilizing the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.

If you want to remove a glyph from an item you must save it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item where the glyph is placed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be salvaged with the glyph shards.

Adding a glyph to an item could cause it to become unstable and the shards of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you remove the item. You can also add a glyph on your equipment to provide an additional benefit. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and be distributed slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is helpful for players who are taking many hits from their enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens permit players to change the affixes of their equipment and weapons, and they can be obtained in various ways like mistery boxes or as an uncommon drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player a random affix that is usually better than what they had before. Reroll tokens can also be a good option to reroll stats on weapons and can be upgraded to increase damage or perks.

Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the item upgrade menu, however, they still qualify to receive upgrades. By pressing the "upgrade button" you can recycle these rerolled items. This will change the design of the item's window, and allow up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, which means higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.

In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll a percentage chance of a weapon's traits. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower the weapon remains as is. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.

Rerolls are a good option for upgrading an item, however, players should be aware that it could reduce the total ilvl of the weapon by the number of rerolls used in order to increase the weapon to its ultimate ilvl. This is evident on Rings and Diadems as they have no other options for raising ilvl.

The Reroll system has been criticized by players as being too expensive and it's more reasonable to let players pay for it in the form of money or food items that would allow players to modify their builds without spending too much time and effort. However the paid rerolls aren't something that the developers would like to incorporate at this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to add an ability to change races in the future.

Leveling

There are a variety of ways to upgrade an item level upgrade. The first way to level up an item upgrade is to increase the upgrade amount. This increases the value of an upgrade for any stat. The second option is to increase the impact of the upgrade, which increases damage or healing for the stat. Finally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to an upgrade type. The upgraded item will maintain its iLevel, but will have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.

When you upgrade items it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades are random. Most of the time, a higher roll is based on the glyphs. However there are occasions where a higher or more special roll can occur. The type of the item upgrades will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a rare or exclusive item to a unique item type, then it has a chance of getting an upper level.

The cost of upgrading items can be expensive especially if you're upgrading a piece of equipment from a standard to legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item upgrades will depend on its base iLevel as well as the number of levels to upgrade. Some upgrade tracks also require crests in order to get to the next level.

If you're lucky the upgraded item will get to the top of its upgrade track, and thus unlock an additional benefit. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect will vary with each upgrade level though. Generally speaking the upgrade effect is increased by a number of +3.

Depending on the item's level of base and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will change too. For instance an item upgraded from being a scarce or unique item upgrades to an exceptional one will have the chance to gain the Enhanced Defense of the new base item.
