Costs

Success Rate

Item upgrades are based on an opportunity, and like every random system, there's a chance that the upgrade won't succeed. However there are a few factors which can improve the chance of success. This includes using an Upgrade Pity or the addition additional components to your upgrade.

An Upgrade Pity is an item you can buy from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the chances of a successful upgrade by some percentage. There are a variety of items available in the Kafra shop that can be used to improve the odds of an upgrade succeeding. The higher the item's rank, the more Zeny and items will be required to upgrade it.

This system is costly especially if you're looking for high-level gear. It could cost as high as 100,000 Z and 100 Carnium to upgrade an armor or weapon. As you rise in rank, the chances of success diminish. You can increase the chance of upgrading an item by making use of cash shop items.

You must have the right number of cores before you can do a normal upgrade. Once you have them then click the button next to the item you want to upgrade. The upgrade window will then show a percentage indicator of your odds of success. This percentage is determined by the level of upgrade for the item and the type you have chosen.

You can also select an item with a safeguard that will safeguard the item in the event of failure. The safeguard is not free, but the cost will be lower than a new item. The safeguard can only be used once for each upgrade and will last until it is used again.
