Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it's upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item upgrading's level. The cost increases as the item's level rises.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading with other players or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be upgraded to blue level before a component can be used. Unlike other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment using the smallest amount of Upgrade Crystals than are required to achieve the same upgrade level through normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense attributes of a weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist the upgrades can be crafted at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a higher tier version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives players the opportunity to upgrade their gear even if they are unsure what will be improved following the reset.

The boost upgrade may be successful or not, the process can be costly, and there is a high chance that the item could become obsolete or even break if it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could destroy Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the possibility of failure. Glyphs

Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to increase the stats of specific items by introducing upgraded components. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item upgrader kit has a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level of an item requires a different amount of components and the costs for upgrading increase as the item gets advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be bought from NPCs, or on the upgrade tab of the crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player it is replaced with a new item of the same kind. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into the form of a shield or weapon when upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This could be a disadvantage since the item may be more expensive even if you do not require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens in order to do this. When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest.
