14 Common Misconceptions About Item Upgrade

From Hastam Wiki

WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade items increases item level by 3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees more value in trade as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For example, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level, in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot for the Item Level upgrade and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each upgrade items cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available in many places including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is true even if the items are from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that crests are only available for gear with a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade item process. For example, once an item reaches the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they only have one use. For instance it's a good idea to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, that will be able to avail the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
