13 Things About Item Upgrader You May Not Have Known
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item upgrader mod. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item upgrader mod's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its base stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all its upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a popular measure of power, and can be found on all item tooltips. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the level of an item. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor is possible using the item's level.
On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories on how the calculation of an item's level is made. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
This is not the only thing that affects the ilvl of an item upgrader mod. The location of where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon, and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat modifications of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill.
Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.
All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item to specific stats, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an item that is unique or a God roll from a boss of a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll affixes, or choose which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to upgrade item their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each item level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%.
The Luck of an item can influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases that chance by 5%.
The upgrade overlays for items are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
