Upgrades can boost the value of certain numeric statistics on armor, weapons and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as crit chance and PvE damage.

For example, a weapon with the upgrade template ending in % will suffer 3% attack damage every time it upgrades (relative to its previous value).

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, armor, and weapons to provide them with a boost in stats or to add an additional effect. They can be obtained by crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to a blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment and some of the items that are not ascending back. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment from the ascended state or completing a quest in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it is applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to make stronger versions of the equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. These upgrades are available for purchase them from the cash shop or getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time. Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even if they are unsure what can be improved upon the reset.

The boost upgrade item may be successful or not, the process can be expensive, and there is a significant chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails. A failed upgrade will cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the chance of failure. Certain upgrades also provide the player a bonus if they are they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to enhance the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs increase the effectiveness of all nodes in their radius and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. It is commonplace to see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the Best item upgrader method to upgrade items your gear. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded directly to level 15 and offer a large boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes faster.

Glyphs, the sole upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and replaced again, are the most common. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and rebuilt with a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

Each Glyph has a certain range of values that it can improve a stat by, and the value is shown when you choose the Glyph in your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is of the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase them with certain tools that are unlimited in use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt has a chance to drop one of the many Glyphs, and there are also a few rare glyphs that can be found as drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will require them to be placed on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a bonus that boosts the stats of a particular set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.

Utilizing the Glyph will boost all nodes that are linked to it, and it is recommended to position your Glyphs close to key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for example, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their most critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system of items allows players to increase the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Each upgradeable item is assigned a level which determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum level of 385. Each level requires a different amount of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require a special ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of a crafting table. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed earns several Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. The same armor will receive a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item also comes with its own set bonus. This could be a problem in that it could make the item more expensive if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough reroll tokens to be able to do so. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have the level 1 base, and a different set of bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be done regularly, as it can waste many resources.

Certain upgrades can boost their value, allowing players to customize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides buffs when the player continuously enters or exits the water. The item can be upgraded several times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is very valuable in PvP. A well-rolled version could be worth 50 times the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to boost the level of their equippable equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by providing the appropriate currency and items to an NPC that upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces improve the strength of their base defense and weapon upgrades items boost their base damage as well as their strength and dexterity.

All items are upgradeable up to five times, with the exception for hero gear, which can be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an item, it is given a chance to fail--the rate of failure increases as you go beyond the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will cause the item upgrader mod to go to its initial condition, which requires the user to spend more materials than they would had they stopped upgrading at the maximum amount of upgrades.

If an item is not upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will be reset to zero. The item will also lose any bonuses it gained like chances to be crit damage to attack, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the player can still continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

Whenever an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that if a weapon receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any attack damage increases. A new attribute known as Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is recomputed every time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for example, a common equipment item might have 5 upgrades with a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items are less expensive per upgrade.

Premium items may have different upgrade requirements from standard gear. For example they may require less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. The player will need to bring every piece of gear they wish to upgrade to the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each upgrade will require the use of different ingredients for upgrading.
